Croton Council on the Arts
June Newsletter

June is peonies, graduations, weddings - and the first slow, sunwarmed days of summer.
Summerfest is Croton-on-Hudson’s way of welcoming summer on June 7, and CCoA will be there from 1-6 pm with a booth to share who we are, what we’ve accomplished, and how we continue to enrich our community.
Our Third Thursdays at The Grand series will feature Artists Happy Hour with Open Mic downstairs, and a paid event, Drawing from Life with Beatrice diMartino, upstairs - either one a fun and creative way to spend an evening.
We’re also partnering with the New Milford Commission on the Arts for their Art Fair on June 27 - a perfect chance to enjoy a summer's day on the Town Green in New Milford, CT, or to show and sell your work at CCoA’s booth.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to offer, in conjunction with the Arts and Humanities Council, a special Encaustic Demonstration with artist Lesa Cash on July 11 at Maple Commons, 43-45 Maple Street in Croton. We are mentioning this to give our members a heads up.
Finally, we’re so proud of the Hudson River Spring Arts & Crafts Festival held May 9–10 at Windrose on Hudson. Many may not know that the Ossining Arts Council generously contributed their time and energy to help make the event such a success. A big thank you to our Board President, Jim Christensen, and OAC Co-Vice President, Dennis Kirby - a fantastic team.
If you missed any of our events in May we have recaps toward the end of the newsletter:
  • CCoA's Hudson River Spring Arts & Crafts Indoor Festival.
  • New Croton Review – Spring 2026 Launch Party
  • CCoA presents Third Thursdays at The Grand: Artists Happy Hour.
  • Hysterical Coney Island Book Launch: An Art Memoir of the Coney Island
  • Hysterical Society

CCoA is partnering with the New Milford Arts Commission!

New Milford Art Festival
New Milford Green
New Milford, CT
June 27, 2026
It’s always inspiring to see how other Arts Councils operate - and to experience artwork from different regions. This partnership with the New Milford Commission on the Arts gives our members a wonderful opportunity to spend the day at the New Milford Town Green and share their work with a whole new audience.
Many of the surrounding towns are “weekender” communities, where New Yorkers spend their weekends in the countryside. They come to New Milford especially for the Farmer’s Market, which opens at 9 AM. This year, the Arts Commission chose to open the festival at 9 AM as well - a smart move to make sure no potential customers slip by!
We have a booth and will have room for a few artists to display their work. There is no fee to participate. This is an outdoor show. Please write to judyrayer@crotonarts.org if you are interested: first come, first served.

We’re gearing up for a full calendar of events in Visual Art, Music, Dance, Poetry, Writing, and Photography – all building toward a festive Gala. Fundraising will play a vital role too, helping us make this anniversary year truly special.
Each arts category will have its own committee head, and they’ll be looking for your energy, your ideas, and your hands-on help to bring these events to life. This is your chance to shape an exciting year of creativity and community - and we’d love to have you involved.

DRIFT, our annual juried open + awards exhibition asks you to explore gradual movement, whether through physical displacement or the wandering of thoughts or ideas. DRIFT investigates what happens when we let go. It examines the marks left behind by that which has passed or the blurring of memory.

Croton has a long and continuing tradition of being a magnet for artists of all disciplines. The Croton Council on the Arts was born and grew out of this tradition and Croton’s 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. Local artists and supporters joined forces to stage events for the public in Croton and surrounding villages. Under poet and President Ruth Lisa Schechter’s dynamic leadership, the new council organized many productions in theater and dance, exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, and musical recitals and poetry readings. The Croton Review, a literary magazine, was published annually in the 1980s. Croton residents greeted these contributions to our Village with great enthusiasm and CCoA quickly became a valuable asset in the cultural life of our community.
CCoA is in constant need of volunteers to help us run our activities, and come up with new ones. It's also a great way to network and enhance your sense of community. CLICK HERE to send email to us if you have questions or want to get involved with CCoA activities.
